The quest to study quantum materials on sub-nm length scales and extremely short intervals of time arises from the fundamental scales of their quantum excitations and collective interactions. Today, progress in this field is hampered by our ability to access several orders of magnitude in space and time resolution, across which emergence develops.
The Ultrafast Materials Science Program aims to close this critical gap, providing a holistic approach about quantum phase, phase transitions and emergent properties by bringing together critical momentum, time and spatial resolution.
