Phillip Messersmith, a senior faculty scientist in the Materials Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and a professor at UC Berkeley, has been selected into the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow—one of the world’s largest general scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of journals.
Messersmith was recognized for his “distinguished contributions to the understanding of wet biological adhesion, and for the development and translation of biologically inspired materials.” As the Class of 1941 Professor in the Departments of Bioengineering and Materials Science and Engineering, his research has led to advancements in in tissue adhesives, drug delivery systems, and medical implant coatings.
