Kristin Persson, a senior faculty scientist in the Materials Sciences D at Lawrence Berkeley National  Lab and a professor at UC Berkeley, was selected into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)—one of the highest professional honors in the field.

Persson was recognized for her “data-driven materials design through the creation and stewardship of open materials databases and associated data-mining algorithms,” according to the NAE. As the director of the Materials Project, she has played a leading role in transforming materials discovery by leveraging high-throughput computations and machine learning, enabling scientists worldwide to accelerate the development of new materials for energy storage, and electronics.
