Demonstrated that coherent propagation of spin wavepackets in van der Waals (vdW) magnets occurs through a universal mechanism of magnetic dipole coupling.

Significance and Impact

Identifying the mechanism of spin propagation at long wavelengths in the entire class of vdW magnets provides a set of optimization rules, as well as caveats, that are essential for any future applications of these promising systems.

Research Details

  • Generated coherent spin wavepackets by optical pulses and tracked their motion by raster scanning of time-delayed probe pulses.
  • Performed measurements of propagation in layered magnets Fe3Sn2 and CrSBr as functions of temperature and applied magnetic field.
